This photograph, awarded in the 16th International Picture Award (category Panorama), captures the profound silence and timeless beauty of a summer night in the Dolomites. Taken from the picturesque Alpe di Siusi, the image features the iconic Sassolungo and Sassopiatto under a canopy of stars. The scene embodies the stillness and anticipation of the moment, where nature's grandeur is illuminated only by the starlight.
To create this award-winning image, I employed the stacking technique, merging two separate exposures to bring out the finest details. The sky was captured with a 25-second exposure to preserve the sharpness of the stars, while the foreground—with its subtle textures and contours—was brought to life with a 2-minute exposure. Together, they convey the perfect harmony of earth and sky in a scene that feels almost otherworldly.
Below I added some additional Shots from the same stunning night, each exploring different perspectives and light conditions across the Alpe di Siusi. These images continue the story of this serene and magical place.
